Incoming exchange students may complete an internship in San Francisco or New York City after their academic semester at MSU.
The internship program offered through MSU is an academic program, meaning that internships earn credit, and a transcript is provided at the completion of the program. Earning the academic credit will happen in combination of your work experiences, your reflections on those experiences and through an online class with professors at Michigan State University. All internships are unpaid, but they are wonderful additions to your resume or CV.
Internship placements are created for each individual students based on their academic, professional and personal interests. Internships are possible in a number of different industries such as arts & culture, healthcare, business, marketing, technology, and more. Students are encouraged to be creative, think about developing transferable skills and how they can be a first step toward career goals.
The placement process begins once a student arrives on campus and informs the Exchange Coordinator that they are interested in the program and their options. MSU and the Academic Internship Council will work together to support interested students pre, during and post internship.
The cost for an internship semester during the 2016/17 academic year is $9,500. (This may change based on the length of the internship.) Program fees include your placement, housing, internship orientation MSU enrollment, professional development activities and support during your program. This price doesn't include airfare, food, or local transport.
