Application Deadlines:

Apply now to become a Michigan State Spartan!

Before you apply, confirm you meet all Admissions Requirements. Once you have ensured you meet all requirements, you will need to gather the following documents to complete your application (do not begin your application without these documents!). All documents MUST be in English:

  • Passport Copy
  • Academic Transcripts (compile all into single PDF)
  • MSU Course Request Form (fillable)
  • Proof of English Proficiency (ex: TOEFL, IELTS results, etc.)
  • Personal Statement (essay of 500 words or less)
  • Financial Support & Documentation. Proof of funding must cover program fee for semester(s) at MSU (this includes: tuition, room & board, health insurance, books, living expenses, etc.). If you plan to use your parent or legal guardian's financial documents to show proof of funding, please complete this form and upload it along with all other financial documents.
  • MSU Housing Form

IMPORTANT:

  • This process is for the American Semester Program (semester and academic year), not summer short courses or exchanges. For the Exchange Student application, please go here. For summer programs, please go here.
  • A non-refundable $75 application fee must be paid before your application will be considered or processed. Follow this link to our Cashnet storefront (Select "Semester Program Payments & Registrations" on the right-hand side of the screen, then click "American Semester Program Application Fee").
  • Upon acceptance of the semester program, you will be prompted to fill out your shipping information. This information will be used to send your visa paperwork once it is completed. To learn more about our shipping process, please view this PDF.
  • By default, students will be processed as F-1, visiting students. If you have issues or require a different visa (J-1 student visa), please inform us immediately.
