Admitted ASP & Exchange Students

Congratulations on your admission to the American Semester Program! We are so excited to have you join the Spartan family.

Here you will find information on course enrollment and housing, as well as information from other offices on campus that are relevant for you prior to the start of the semester.

Before you begin your next steps, it is vital you activate your NetID, if you have not already done so. Your NetID gives you access to MSU services and resources across campus, and the University's web-based email system, Spartan Mail.

To activate your NetID, visit: netid.msu.edu

Welcome Guide

Review our Welcome Guide to learn a bit more about your next steps and what you can expect upon arrival at MSU.

Apply for Your Student Visa

Upon notification by us that your visa paperwork has been shipped to you, it is vital you promptly schedule a visa appointment at your nearest U.S. Embassy.

We will be sending your visa paperwork to you, however, is is important you also review all required materials for your individual appointment - your country might have specific requirements you must be aware of.

IMPORTANT:

  • Do not schedule your appointment until we notify you through email your visa paperwork is on its way
  • Confirm your passport is valid. Your passport must be valid for at least six months and beyond your intended period of stay in the U.S
  • You must also pay the SEVIS fee and complete the SEVIS form 1-901. Your SEVIS ID Number will be on your I-20 or DS-2019 form. You must pay the SEVIS fee at least 3 days before applying for your visa. PRINT YOUR RECEIPT
  • Pay your visa fee

Finalize Your Course Schedule

It may not be possible to fully complete your schedule due to numerous reasons outside of our control. However, once you are accepted to our program, you should be enrolled in or approved for a few courses.

From the time of your acceptance you should:

  • Be patient! It takes time for our colleagues to process course requests and enrollments
  • Monitor StuInfo to stay up-to-date with your current enrollments

IMPORTANT: when checking your enrollments DO NOT drop any courses before speaking with us. Your immigration and visa requirements depend on this. If you drop a course on accident, we cannot guarantee you will get it back.

Housing and Accommodations

Nearly 17,000 MSU students live in on-campus housing. Living on campus keeps you close and connected.

Log into your LiveOn account to see updates on your housing arrangements and to sign your housing contract. NOTE: if you do not see any updates, your requests may still be in process. Please check back periodically.

Dining and Meal Plans

MSU's culinary system is top of its class. Your meal plan will get you access to any one of the cafeterias on campus, along with Sparty's Cafes and the new Sparty's Market. If you are living in undergraduate housing (NOT Owen), you will be provided with the DINEON Silver Plan.

Your dietary needs, including Halal and Kosher cuisines, are also accommodated here at MSU.

How to Pay Your MSU Bill

While you will not be required to make bill payments prior to your arrival on campus, we still think it's important you understand where to find your bill and how to pay it.

StuInfo is your go-to webpage for all things related to your billing, enrollment and more.

In StuInfo you can see your "billing statement", as well as your "account detail". Both of these sections will highlight what you are billed, when you need to pay and how to pay.
