Exchange Programs

Michigan State University exchange programs give students the opportunity to engage with a new culture and experience life as a traditional international student.

Students are eligible to participate on exchange if they:

MSU can only accept a limited number of exchange students per year, so contact your home school's study abroad office early to find out if you are eligible for exchange.

If your home institution has a special one-way agreement, or if exchange numbers are unevenly balanced, the American Semester Program might be of interest to you.

What Is An Exchange Program?

Exchange students are fully integrated into university life with guaranteed on-campus housing and access to every MSU dining hall. Students have the ability to participate in student organizations, join sports teams, or cheer on the Spartans at football and basketball games.

While at Michigan State, exchange students take courses right alongside degree-seeking MSU students. The credits earned in these courses may be transferred back to a student’s home institution upon completion of the program

Exchange students do not pay tuition, but must pay for their housing and all other expenses. Exchange spots at MSU are very limited, so check with your home school early if you want to come to MSU on exchange!

Students interested in seeking information about an exchange program at MSU should contact their home institution's education abroad office.
