MSU Exchange Program Application Process

STEP ONE

Create a Traveler Profile in our Online Application System, ViaTRM. When creating your profile, please list your name as it appears in the machine readable portion of your passport. We also ask that you please include your home university name, area of study, and picture in your profile information.

STEP TWO

Confirm you meet all Admissions Requirements. Once you have ensured you meet all requirements, you will need to gather the following documents to complete your application. All documents MUST be in English:

  • Copy of Passport - Passport must be valid 6 months beyond the end date of your program
  • Official Academic Transcripts (compile all into single PDF)
  • Proof of English Proficiency (ex: TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo results)
  • Personal Statement (essay of 500 words or less)
  • Financial Support Documentation
    • Proof of funding must cover program fee for semester(s) at MSU (this includes: room & board, health insurance, books, living expenses, etc.).
    • If you plan to use your parent or legal guardian's financial documents to show proof of funding, please complete the Statement of Financial Support Form and upload it along with all other financial documents.

STEP THREE

Once you have created your Traveler Profile and collected all the required documentation to apply, you can browse our programs and apply to the program of your choice.

  • Undergraduate students should apply to the program titled "Exchange Program: Undergraduate/Bachelor". 
  • Graduate students should apply to the program titled "Exchange Program: Graduate/Master".

The application should take a 20-30 minutes in total. Please make sure not to accidentally apply to the American Semester Program

STEP FOUR

As part of the application process, you will be asked to submit a non-refundable application fee of USD $75. This fee must be paid before your application will be considered or processed. Visit our Cashnet Storefront to make this payment. Once there, select "Semester Program Payments & Registrations", then click "Exchanges Application Fee".

STEP FIVE

After submitting the application, please check back periodically for application updates. After admission, our office will provide you with additional instructions related to arrival, housing, course registration, and orientation through the ViaTRM messenger.


IMPORTANT:

  • The application process outlined above is for MSU Exchange Program participants (semester and academic year). It is not for summer short courses or the American Semester Program.
  • All proof of funds (bank letter or bank statement) must be on letterhead or stamped, signed, dated and no older than 6 months. All supporting documents must be in English or provided in its original form with a third party translation (cannot be done by you or a family member) that includes the ‘Certification by Translator’ found below. 
    • The following example must be reproduced on a separate document:

      Certification by Translator: I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled [file name].

    • All translation documents must also include the name of the translator (typed), signature, date and full address.
