Student Testimonials

Listen to what our students have to say about their time at Michigan State University. Included are student stories from the American Semester Program, Exchange and ASP Short Course programs.

Austin Reich.jpgThe ASP&E program and experience at MSU was, and I truly mean this, the single best experience of I have ever had in my life. The people I have met, the experiences I have made, and the amazing moments I have had throughout my time at MSU are things I will remember for the rest of my life. I have become worldly, culturally aware, independent, mature, and have really gotten to understand who I am as a person, and my true self. I do not regret anything about my time at MSU. Being spontaneous and myself made me live my best life.

Momoka Ohno.jpgWelcoming people and wonderful environment for students to focus on learning! I made more friends than I was expecting I would and had so much fun with them.

Alex Wahl.jpgIt’s an incredible journey that starts slow but then speeds up way too quickly. It will be over before you can even grasp what’s happening – so make it count!

Maeva Mariano.jpgThe ASP&E program was the best experience of my life, what I learned in class and the projects I made will help me achieve my goals. This program offered me so many opportunities. I got my name in a fashion magazine and interviewed professors! MSU also helped me create a network and I discovered what I really want to do later. I’m so grateful for this experience. If you have the opportunity, then go for it!

Nma Dhahir.jpgThe supportive faculty and diverse student body created a vibrant learning community. My time at MSU equipped me with not only knowledge but also practical skills, preparing me for success beyond academia. I wholeheartedly endorse the program for all their efforts in involving students and making them feel they’re home.

Robin from Lancaster.jpgStudying abroad at Michigan State is easily the best decision I have ever made. Before embarking on my exchange year, I really had no idea about the experiences I would have and the friends from all around the world that I would make in East Lansing. On the academic side, it has been so valuable for me to gain a new perspective on my studies from professors with completely different experiences and ideas compared to what I had learned at my University in the UK. On the social side, the University experience in the United States and especially at Michigan State is beyond anything I could have ever imagined! Despite being a massive campus with over 40,000 students, the feeling of community on campus is very strong – everyone is wearing green and white and you really feel like you are part of something very special. Whether I was cheering on one of MSU’s sports teams, or now saying “Go Green!” to anyone I see wearing Michigan State merch in London, I know that I will always be a Spartan.

Diego from USFQ.jpgTo choose Michigan State University as my exchange destination program has been the most impactful decision I have ever made. Moreover, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to extend my program. My time at MSU was filled with challenges that changed my perspective of the world. I had the privilege of meeting incredible people with whom I still maintain meaningful connections, and ultimately, I embarked myself on a personal journey of self-discovery. East Lansing is a small community that radiates warmth centered around MSU. When on campus, I felt like I was part of something greater than myself. Initially, I was skeptical about fitting in, due to my different cultural background, but I was pleasantly surprised by the welcoming atmosphere. The AS&P program department was always receptive and supportive of its students, ensuring that we never felt isolated. If asked a hundred times whether to choose MSU again, my answer would be a hundred times yes. Once a Spartan, always a Spartan. Go Green!

Charlie from Lancaster.jpgMy time studying at Michigan State was simply, the adventure of a lifetime. After starting the year, I quickly developed a wealth of new friends from all around the world. I found myself in a strong group of 16 exchange students. We ate our meals together, went to sports fixtures, and went out in East Lansing. The most memorable parts were our weekend road trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls, and also our fall trip to Northern Michigan. I adored the Michigan State campus; cycling to class in the fall under the changing amber leaves, studying in the Minskoff Pavilion, trudging through the snow to meet my friends at Landon Hall, and jogging along the banks of the Red Cedar on a mild spring evening. I would do it all over again. Alongside my studies, I was lucky enough to represent Michigan State in Rugby Union, playing in the BIG10 division, traveling around the Midwest. The players and coaching staff enhanced my experience in the USA tremendously. Through the connections I made playing rugby, I had a family to spend Christmas with, as well as thanksgiving, where I made some of the greatest memories of my life in rural Michigan. These memories were made with people I had very few similarities with, we talked and behaved differently, but it was the kind and inquisitive nature of the students at Michigan State University that enabled me to benefit from this once in a lifetime opportunity. Go Green!
